"I hope this message finds you well". If this is your linkedIn connection request message, sorry to tell you. ITS NOT WORKING. Its time to break into Guerilla Job hunting tactics.

Let me drop some wildly unconventional ways to get their attention.. the recruiters i mean.

The Trojan Horse Delivery.

Plot: Order them a box of Donut or a box of pizza addressed to the HR or their office

  • Execution: Write a note inside the lid with a pen; "Its cheesy, but here's my resume for a change" and stick a copy of your resume.

  • How does it work?: Fist of all, its free food. Now you have proven your self as a problem solver that solves through snacks.

Pitch a Spotify playlist

Create a public playlist that reads where the names read out a mesage when read top to bottom.

Hi - 9teen

Dear - Ben & Ben

Jolene - Dolly Parton

Hire - Fastball

Me - Kelly Karlson

I Am - Bebe Rexha

Good at - Megan thee stallion

Accounts - Nijjar

  • Execution: Send them the playlist and share the message " I have a playlist made just for you. Enjoy work and maybe read the title top to bottom".

A Hyper targeted ad. Just for the right person.

Create a hyper targeted social media ad. Im pretty sure they use either instagram or facebook or infact both. Establish the ad just within 2 Kilometer of the targeted company office with keywords mentioning the exact job title and job details.

  • Execution: Make the post quirky and funny. Could be a picture of you standing near a poster which is your CV highlighting only the necessary skills.

  • Message: " I have a skill and you have a problem that needs to be fixed. Lets combine them"

  • Cost: Literally less that a 1000 Rs. Could get you a big step closer to your dream job.

Customized Candidate Trading C

ard.

Create a custom trading card similar to a WWE wrestling card or a pokemon card with each of your skill as energies.

  • Stats to be added

    • Strength

    • Weakness

    • Energy

    • Achievements

    • Talent

    • Rarity

  • Execution: Mail this to the concerned HR or their office and say : Add this candidate to your collection as well.

Coffee Shop Hungama

Nothing beats a good coffee break. Get out there and network and offer a free coffee.

  • Execution: Connect with the nearest coffee shop of the office you are hoping to join and sponsor a free coffee to the concerned personal who visits them. Get them to write a note on the cup saying "Pls check ur linkedin DM". Drop them a polite message on linkedIn.

Golden Rule: There is a thin line between "Guerilla Method" and "Why is this person stalking me everywhere i go". Make sure the match the energy of the employer and it completely depends on their work culture.

Some additional tips.

These are not the only methods you can use. Let me give you some additional tips.

You may find directly messaging recruiters on linkedIn as a waste of time. However, that's not always the case. Even though recruiters get a handful number of messages on linkedIn on a daily basis, from an HR perspective my self, first thing i look forward to is to go through my messaged on LinkedIn. Yes, the turnover time maybe longer, but it definitely works and is worth the wait.

TIME MATTERS.

What you send them matters, so does the time you send it to them.

You may be first to click that "APPLY NOW" button, but that doesnt mean your submission is the first one to be seen by the recruiter.

You might send a cover letter or a summar message that briefly describe who and what you are, but they might necessarily not read it.

Here is what works.

  • Send your job application / email application late at night or early morning. Most of the recruiters / HR open their email to look for potential CVs in the morning. Sending the application in the late morning or evening will push your email to the bottom which lowers your chance of being seen or getting shortlisted.

  • Most of them have a target for shortlisting in mind and may pause screening for the day once they have enough number of CVs.

  • Keep your message short and crisp as they hardly reach through the first 3 lines. Highlight what you want them to know about you the most.

  • Apart from the above mentioned, it is important that you secure an internal referral which doubles the chance of your profile being noticed or shortlisted. Try and connect with an alumni from your past company or university. You can find the same on LinkedIn. Why does it work? The answer is simple. Most of the openings dont see the market and are closed internally or through internal reference, which accounts to nearly 60 percentage.

  • Give percentage of effort differently to different companies. Based on your preference; Salary, knowledge, growth, allocate more effort to what matters more. If you prefer to get a higher salary or grow financially in a company, focus majority of your efforts on the options of companies that given higher compensation than the others.

  • Remember to seek a proof of your work handy. Let it be the clients that you had worked in the past or your most appreciated work that led to higher results in your past company.

  • Identify a problem that occurred in your target company and give a value proposition or a solution for the problem. Give examples of such situations that occurred in your previous company and the solution you had for the same.

As emphasised above, it is important to understand the audience, in this scenario, the company that you are looking to get into. The strategy may not work for all the companies and it is important to customize it.

Again, these are just strategies that are way out of the ordinary and worked for people in the past.
